press release
Pierogi is extremely pleased
to present a collaborative installation by Reed Anderson and Jef Scharf.
If these two had not
found one another they would most likely be painting sale signs in a
discount drug store. They are definitely not cool enough to work in
a record store.
Anderson and Scharf co-opt
the co-opting attitudes of a century ago, but alter this practice to their
own devicesÑthey do not simply steal from other cultures. After a process
of consumption of widely varied experiences and influences that resembles
osmosis, they develop a multifarious range of Sirventes-like works.
This installation will consist
of a roughly built wooden structure set in the gallery spaceÑa club-house
/ RubikÕs cube / fort / factory / orgone accumulator / refrigerator. Drawings
chock full of literary, scientific and historical references will cover
the structureÕs interior walls, floor, and ceiling. From there the show
will spill out into the rest of the gallery like an overflowing cornucopia.
