Pierogi also presents the first
one-person New York exhibition of the work of Bogdan Perzyñski.
Born in Poland, Perzyñski exhibited mainly in Poland and Germany
from the late 70s to the mid-80s. He now lives in Austin, TX where he
teaches at the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been exhibited
in California and elsewhere in the United States.
Shot in one uninterrupted take,
"Balsamic Vinegar of Modena" shows a dinner. With added filters
and interactive code the process, practice, and concept
is remapped. The mise-en-scene is open to the "reader's"
interaction. A dinner turns into a video, a video into film, and film
into digital mass. The lines of genre distinctions are obliterated. Video
direction and playback speed are open to choice and play. Operating as
an interactive video projection, the viewers' movements throughout the
room determine the rate and degree of disintegration and reconstruction.
Grants and fellowships from
the University of Texas at Austin have allowed Perzyñski to pursue
much of the creative and technological research necessary to his work.
